LACCD Board Of Trustees elects new officers for 2025 and swears in re-elected members
LOS ANGELES—The Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) Board of Trustees elected Trustee Kelsey Iino to serve as President of the Board of Trustees for 2025. The Board also elected Trustee Sara Hernandez to serve as Vice President and Trustee Andra Hoffman as the Board’s Second Vice President. Board officers were sworn in by CA Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara, CA Assemblymember Mike Fong, Gardena City Councilmember Mark Henderson, and CA Superior Court Judge Akemi Arakaki.
“Serving as Board President is a profound honor and an incredible opportunity to elevate the voices of our students while advocating for their needs, aspirations, and dreams,” said President Kelsey Iino. “I am eager to champion initiatives that empower our students, faculty, and staff, ensuring equitable access to the diverse educational, professional, and personal growth opportunities available across our nine campuses. My vision is to cultivate an inclusive and supportive environment where every member of the LACCD community feels heard, valued, and prepared to thrive.”
During the meeting, Trustee Nichelle Henderson was celebrated for her exemplary leadership as the 2024 Board President. She was instrumental in amplifying the voices of underserved communities, championing equity-focused initiatives, and fostering stability during the District’s transition to a new interim Chancellor. Her leadership ensured that the Board remained focused on supporting students and advancing LACCD’s mission throughout a pivotal year. Officer appointments follow the successful reelection campaigns of Trustees Nichelle Henderson, Andra Hoffman, David Vela, and Kelsey Iino, each securing another four-year term.
“Serving as Board Vice President is an honor and an exciting opportunity to continue shaping the future of LACCD,” said Board Vice President Sara Hernandez. “I remain focused on fostering collaboration, supporting student-centered initiatives, and ensuring our policies and programs reflect the diverse needs of LACCD’s communities. This includes addressing the urgent need for student housing and ensuring basic needs are met, because only when students have stability can they truly learn and thrive. I am committed to working alongside my fellow board members to strengthen access to education and expand support services so every student achieves their goals.”
“I extend my warmest congratulations to Board President Iino and Vice President Sara Hernandez on their well-earned leadership roles,” said Interim Chancellor Dr. Alberto J. Román. “The Board’s unwavering dedication to our students, staff, and the entire LACCD community is truly inspiring. Their leadership serves as a beacon of hope, shining a light on our achievements and reminding us of the transformative power of education. I look forward to working closely with all members as we continue to advance our mission of providing equitable access to high-quality education and creating opportunities that change lives. Together, we will build on our successes and face the challenges ahead with collaboration, innovation, and a steadfast commitment to excellence.”
